Aircraft Care

Airplane windows and helicopter bubbles are just like the windows in your house... except that they scratch 100 times as easily and cost 100 times as much.

Glass is heavy. Airplanes need to be light. Thus, airplane windows are made of acrylic, popularly known as Plexiglas or "plastic." Plastic scratches much more easily than glass.

Here are the steps:

  • Pour at least an entire bucket of water over the canopy, bubble, or window to remove surface grit. Alternatively, hose off the grit.
  • Spray with windshield cleaner
  • Wipe lightly with a 100-percent cotton cloth to dry and remove lightly attached dirt. Use up-down/left-right motions of the cloth, never circular motions, which create scratches that generate a lot of glare.

Exterior cleaning

Use low pressure washing on:

  • landing gear and landing gear bay.
  • hydraulic tubes, and air/ground sensors.

    AGC 22 Aircraft Glass Cleaner

This versatile and highly effective product will remove all marks and stains from both cockpit windscreens and passenger cabin windows. These marks include jet-efflux as encountered when flying into busy airports.  Fly, bug and moth debris also smear the screen on airport approach and departure.  Water repellent stains mar the clarity of the cockpit and cabin screens.

AGC has become a welcome and essential addition to the cleaning regime of many airlines, because it is powerful, effective, non-hazardous and easily transportable.

Alglas AGC is approved to Boeing Document D6-7127 and appears in the Boeing handbook.

The product is endorsed by British Airways plc's Materials and Processes Laboratory, as follows:

"I am pleased to advise that Alglas AGC is used successfully on British Airways Concorde flights operating at speeds up to Mach 2.

We find it an efficient cleaner which readily removes dead flies and other debris picked up during flight and leaves windows clean and clear."

    ACF-50 Anti Corrosion Formula

32oz/1 Qt bottle and refillable pump.

    CORROSION

A SIMPLE EXPLANATION: Corrosion simply stated is a natural phenomenon which destroys most metals by either a chemical or electrochemical reaction. The metal is converted, usually with the help of an electrolyte, into a stable metallic compound such as an oxide, hydroxide, or sulfate. The rate at which metals corrode depends greatly on the environment they are exposed to, and the amount of preventive maintenance they receive. Metals that are exposed to marine atmospheres, moisture, tropical temperatures, and industrial chemical atmospheres have the highest rate of corrosion. The tendency of metals to corrode creates a serious problem in the area of aircraft operation.

    ACF-50 ANTI-CORROSION FORMULA

HOW IT WORKS: ACF-50, Anti-Corrosion Formula, is a state of the art, anti-corrosion lubricant compound, specifically designed for the Aero Space Industry. It is an ultra Thin Fluid Film Compound (TFFC) that actively treats metal using advanced polar bonding technology. As seen from the diagrams, ACF-50’s synthetic inhibitors and active chemistry penetrates through the oxide deposits (white powder) to the base of the corrosion cell where it emulsifies, encapsulates, and then lifts the electrolyte away from the metal surface. ACF-50 then allows this moisture to evaporate while providing an atmospheric barrier that prevents further moisture contact. With the electrolyte removed the corrosion process is halted. ACF-50 actively penetrates and "creeps" into the tightest seams, lap joints, micro cracks, and around rivet heads, displacing moisture and other corrosive fluids (orange juice, coke, coffee, salt water) in these corrosion prone areas. ACF-50’s thin film acts like an "OFF SWITCH" for corrosion remaining effective for up to 24 months.

Being "Pro Active" about corrosion control is the best way to protect your investment. Regular ACF-50 treatments reduce maintenance costs and improve overall flight safety. Lear Chemical‘s pioneered application methods and specially designed equipment, deliver ACF-50’s penetrating fog to all critical aircraft structure. Technicians, at ACF-50 Corrosion Treatment Centers, offer complete airframe applications usually timed to your GA annual. Only ACF-50’s advanced corrosion control properties, protect both the airframe and avionicssystems. The US government, commercial airlines, fleet operators, and general aviation users have, through years of testing and use, proven ACF-50 delivers tough anti-corrosion protection. ACF-50 has endorsements or approvals from nineteen airframe OEM’s and meets industry (AIRBUS, Boeing, Douglas, Mil-Spec) anti-corrosion performance requirements. The FAA also recognizes ACF-50 as a "suitable corrosion preventative compound."

    Dynafoam

    Dynafoam

In the pursuit of safer cockpit environments we are proud to represent genuine Dynafoam, the energy-absorbent seat-foam material widely used in civilian and military applications where safety and comfort are at a premium.
Dynafoam was originally designed for wheelchair applications where the sitting requirements of a disabled person are far more demanding than that of pilots, racing drivers, truck drivers and astronauts, all of who operate in environments where Dynafoam is increasingly being used. Today Dynafoam is used in the most advanced United States military aircraft on ejection seats where it can absorb tremendous impact forces without placing an extra load on the spine – as is common with normal soft foam. Dynafoam deforms at such a rate as to absorb the shock and rebound only slowly after the period of peak acceleration has passed.
Dynafoam is not only a market leader in impact absorption but also a comfortable alternative to everyday foam. It has a 100% open cell structure that allows maximum air circulation and is made from more than 50% plant derivatives; this formula lowers fire toxicity to the level that, if Dynafoam is burned, the resulting fumes are directly breathable for sustained periods. Dynafoam is generically a polyurethane elastomer, but is unique in chemical and physical properties making it an allclimate foam that can be used from freezing temperatures up to 300°F.
Following extensive testing at the Defence Research Agency (DERA), Centre for Human Sciences, Farnborough, in which Dynafoam was tested alongside normal soft foam, Dynafoam was found to “…significantly reduce pilot lumbar spine loads in heavy landings and accidents.” Further, after having been used in a training glider at Lasham Gliding Society, DERA concluded that “The foam retained its property of reducing spinal loads after four years intensive use in a training glider.” These tests, along with many others, have proven Dynafoam’s effectiveness in reducing the risk of spinal damage after a heavy impact/landing and that it will continue to do so after continuous use over long periods of time. In use in thousands of light aircraft worldwide, Dynafoam is constantly being ‘discovered’ for use in new applications where there is the risk of heavy spinal loads, such as Formula One Racing, off-road trials, horse riding and a multitude of others.
    • Safety Dynafoam is made from 50% plant materials and has low toxicity.
    • Physical Properties Dynafoam has a density of 5 lb/ft. It is available in a variety of thicknesses.
    • Comfort Dynafoam is a memory foam with slow springback. It flows to match the contours of the body and reduces sitting fatigue through uniform pressure distribution. The open-cell structure maximizes airflow to reduce heat build-up.
    • Energy Absorption Dynafoam is formulated to withstand impact, repeated shocks and constant vibration, absorbing 90% of impact energy.

Despite its energy absorbing properties, Dynafoam is easy to work, it can be cut with a knife and glued with contact adhesive. Available in three thicknesses, all 410 x 460mm square. Larger sheet sizes, custom thickness and custom absorbency can be supplied to order.
