Anthony Fokker, vooruitziend en vasthoudend. Hij bewees, aan het hoofd van een kleine maatschappij die hij oprichtte, zonneklaar dat de mens het van de vogels kon winnen. Al in 1910 had hij zijn vliegtuig-de Spin- gebouwd, en gaf zijn eerste demonstraties op 31 augustus 1911 boven Haarlem. Op 21 juli 1919 stichtte Fokker – na reeds enkele jaren in Duitsland actief te zijn geweest, waar hij roemruchte typen gevechtsvliegtuigen bouwde – de NV Nederlandsche Vliegtuigfabriek, die zich vestigde in AmsterdamNoord en Veere. De Fokker F.II uit 1919 werd het eerste verkeersvliegtuig voor vier personen. In 921 richtte Fokker een dochterbedrijf op in Amerika, dat gedurende de jaren twintig uitgroeide tot één van de grootste vliegtuigfabrieken ter wereld. Zijn vermaarde drie-motorige vliegtuigen, waarmee tal van historische vluchten werden uitgevoerd, baanden de weg voor het moderne nationale en internationale luchtverkeer. Een indrukwekkende serie modellen ging vooraf aan de stoere betrouwbareFokker F.27 Friendship, ’s werelds meest verkochte twee-motorige-turboprop. Met de Fokker F.28 Fellowship, speciaal ontworpen voor de ontwikkeling van het korte afstand verkeer in de jaren zeventig, begaf Fokker zich ook op de markt voor straalvliegtuigen. De F.27 en F.28 zijn in de tweede helft van de jaren tachtig opgevolgd door de Fokker 50 en de Fokker 100, die een moeizame maar veelbelovende start hebben gemaakt en – meer recentelijk – de Fokker 60 Utility en de Fokker 70.

Spectaculaire aerobatics met de Sukhoi SU-26, de Pitts Special en de Belanca Decathlon ontbreken niet. Grote jets, zols de Boeing E-3 AWACS Sentry en de KDC-10 maakten voor het eerst hun opwachting in de Texel Airshow. Het maritieme element ontbreekt evenmin met een fraaie demo van de PBY Cataline. Klap op de vuurpijl is de demo van het Breitling Jet Team.

This presentation of the two-seater Tornado F3 fighter/interceptor is carried out by pilots Archie Neill and Jim Brown during a memorable show year. We accompany the crew of a Tornado F3 from the early planning stages right up to the entire demonstartion flights during which the capabilities of this outstanding aircraft are highlighted.

On-board cameras give us the opportunity to take part in a six aircraft formation flight. Later we engage in a supersonic flight with speeds up to 640 knots.

Some of the original film excerpts tend to suffer from a loss of quality.
