The ICAO 1:250,000 Rhine-Ruhr aeronautical chart shows the airspace in the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation and includes the airspaces of the Lower Rhine, Dortmund, Paderborn, Düsseldorf, Mönchengladbach and Cologne/Bonn.
The representation of the air traffic control information on airspaces, aerodromes, radio navigation systems and obstacles corresponds to the style of the ICAO map 1:500,000. The topographical information on motorways, railways and bodies of water, etc., is shown in much more detail at a scale of 1:250,000. As a result, terrestrial navigation is also possible in the vicinity of the commercial airports in the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation, and the airspace can be better used or avoided. Due to its scale, the map is ideal for cross-country flights as well as for local flights and is also ideal for microlight pilots.
The map contains the following elements:
- Current airspace structure, VFR reporting points
- Aerodromes with name, location identifier and frequency as well as runway length and orientation
- Information about aerodrome beacons, information about aerodrome circuits, display of aerodrome altitudes
- FIS sectors with frequencies
- Glider airfields, hang glider sites, ultralight aircraft sites, parachute drop sites and free balloon launch sites
- Radio navigation systems (NDB, VOR, VOR/DME, VORTAC) with name, frequency and identifier in Morse code
